Bagcats ASA East Region - June 2008
Details of the Bagcats - East Region Champs are now available on their website at www.eastswimming.org. Closing date for entries is 7th May. Please read entry conditions carefully and ensure entered times appear on our club website and are achieved within the set timescales. Entries must be made on the official entry form.

The club championships have been licensed as level 4, and the details can be found on the events tab above. The home 100's gala on 29/6 is pending approved for licensing at level 3.

As you will all by now be aware the ASA have decided that all 2009 county qualifying times must be achieved at a licensed meet. The committee have decided that to assist swimmers in achieving these times at such a meet and to reduce the need for parents to pay to enter Swimming galas at other clubs, that we will license our own club championships. As you would expect there is a cost involved in applying for a license that the club will need to meet. We have decided that rather than charge swimmers an entry fee, or charge parents to watch, or for a programme, we will hold a number of raffle draws on the evening of the Championships, probably at the first on 18th May and again at the last. We do however need your help in providing suitable raffle prizes to attract lots of interest and raise the extra funds required for the club. If you have a suitable prize or would just like to donate something new please pass to Emma Hollis or any member of the Committee. Please show your support for your club - it is so important and very much appreciated!!

The club will be entering the UK Challenge on Sat 17th and Sunday 18th May 2008.This is a level 1 meet and provides swimmers in the region with one of the final opportunities to gain national times so therefore the qualifying times are quite high. This is an exciting meet and is quoted as being 'one of the fastest short-course pools in the country'. Our swimmers did extremely well last year. Entries must be made on the official form that can be found on their website www.hatfieldswimclub.co.uk and returned to Alison Hollis  no later than 8pm  on Sunday 13th  April. Please ensure that the form is completed in full. Failure to do so will result in your entry being rejected. Please check the qualifying times! Entries for this meet will be accepted or rejected on entered times and not on a first come first serve basis!

Please note that from 1st April 2008 I will be changing my e mail to the following address  headcoachefdsc@hotmail.com  Could you please use this address to contact me with any swimming related issues. My existing address will cease to exist from this date.

Congratulations to Jessica Lambert who is the latest Jack Petchey winner!! Jessica was nominated for giving 110% to training. Her efforts have produced excellant results in galas she has entered recently. A well deserved winner!

The club events pages have been updated with the dates that have been put forward on a licence application to the ASA. The events include all last years events, plus 400 I/M, 800 and 1500 Freestyle.

Essex ASA have decided that for the 2009 Essex champs, all qualifying times have to have been achieved at licensed meets. Historically, most of our swimmers qualifying times are set at our club championships. The committee are looking into getting the club championships in 2008 licensed. As the application for a license has to be made at least 3 months before the first swim, this will result in no club championships until May at the earliest. See the website/notice board for updates.

The club is run by a committee of volunteers who take on the tasks required to keep the club running. New committee members are required to ensure that the club can keep running without too few people performing too many tasks. As with all these things, the more tasks that are performed by one person, the less attention can be given to each task.

To try to provide an environment where the club members can continue to swim, we would welcome nominations for new committee members by 31st Jan 2008 to Sue Whitehead or any other committee member. The nomination slips are on the bottom of the AGM invites that were sent out.

All swimmers are reminded that they are required to wear club kit when attending swimming galas especially when poolside. This includes the EDFSC swimming hat - the club shop now has plenty in stock to purchase!
