Thank you for helping...... - 30 June 2010
Thanks to all those of you who helped out at the Summer Gala last week. Many of the usual faces turned up to assist plus some very welcome new faces. The food spread for the officals and coaches was amazing and conduct of our swimmers first class. The total amount raised was a little under £3000 which was superb considering entries were down on last year but the raffle and food assisted in boosting funds.Your help is really appreciated and although it is often said - the success of all our events really does rely on support from our parents.

Congratulations to Emma Hollis who has broken two British Records within her SB7 classification. Swimming at the IPC International Disability Long Course in May Emma took both the 100m and 50m Britsh Records, both which have stood for many years! Emma now joins brother James who took the S10 British Record in 800 metres free when competing at the Essex Champs earlier in the year!
If you have any other good news stories please pass to Alison Hollis, we want to celebrate all our swimmers successes!

The time has come to welcome the return of Club Championships next Sunday 18th May 2008 at Loughton Pool. The first event of the 2008 calender is the girls 200 free, boys 400 free and the girls 100/50 breast (50m for the under 11years). please remember to register on arrival and be ready to commence warm-up at 5pm. Remember these meets are now Level 4 licenced so times achieved will be acceptable as Essex QT's.
There is no charge for entry. We will be running a raffle on the night to assist covering the cost of licencing the events so please support us! If you have any raffles prizes please pass to Alison Hollis during the week or bring along on the night.

Please take the time to nominate 3 members of the club aged 11-25 for the Jack Petchey award. Send your nominations and reasons to debra.waite@tesco.net Each winner receives £300 to spend on the club, a certificate, a medallion and recognition of their achievement. We will be presenting the awards at the Club Championships to be held on 18th May, 1st June 22nd June 2008 (3 awards so three votes!).

Please be reminded that entries for East region BAGCATS must be handed to Alison Hollis by no later than 7th May 2008. Full details including entry forms can be found on the East Region website (link on right side of this page). Slips have been passed to coaches. Please check the entry times and conditions carefully as late entries or incorrect entries will not be accepted. Swimmers have a personal responsibility in identifying if they have the relevant qualifying times but if you are unclear or not sure of the process please speak with your coach directly.

It has been agreed that the we will trial the idea of running a second-hand equipment shop as a bolt on to the club shop. The idea is very simple you donate any unwanted, outgrown, unfashionable items of equipment such as goggles, flippers, kick boards, etc and we will try an re sell them onto other swimmers at a nominal price. 100% of the selling price will go direct to raise money for the club. The items will be placed in a bucket that will be available when the club shop is open. If you have any items suitable for donation please pass to Alison Hollis. If you require a second hand item at short notice then please also contact Alison Hollis on any club night!

Help the environment by recycling goods, help the club by raising money help the swimmer by having some equipment in reserve!

Swimming at Waltham Abbey Pool on Saturday afternoon is cancelled until further notice. Unfortunately we are unable to provide a coach to cover this session at the current time. Please check the website for further updates.

Our second Night Swim proved a raging success with our aim to get round the whole of the M25 in 9 hours a tall challenge.
Epic swims from a masters relay, Michael Peddle, Olympia Konstantino, Emma Hollis and Carmen Konstantino plus a show of stamina from Junior 4 swimmers Jordana and Chloe Bentley and squad swimmer Billy Noblett meant that the goal was in sight and by 6.30am with a late surge from Greg Peddle we managed the 190600m required. A full list of those that braved the night are enclosed and a big thank you to all that swam, all that counted lengths (especially Cheryl and Greg) and the pool and management staff led by George Lampshire.
When we have a final tally of sponsor money I will post the total on the web site. Half the money will be going to the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The club intends to hold a series of coaches forums with swimmers over the next few months. The first of these will be held by Lee Richards for the performance squad on Sunday 11th May at 5.30pm in the movement studio. These forums will provide swimmers with the opportunity to ask questions about training plans, personal objectives, health and nutrition etc. If swimmers have specific questions to ask or subjects they would like included then please let Lee know in advance of the meeting.
